Le memorial national des Justes
In 1998 the France Central Consistory and the French Association for the homage to the Justes among nations put this memorial at Thonon’s disposal. This monument pays tribute to those who saved lives during the genocide of World War II. It is situated in the heart of the 130 hectares of the Ripaille’s forest. The memorial stands symbolically in the middle of a clearing.
This work of art by the sculptor Nicholas Mosvovitz is composed of copper and brass wire. The monument represents many symbols :
- Three figures represent the Justes
- The others characters symbolize the generations saved by the Justes
- The heart the base of feelings, love, courage and generosity, which characterize the Justes.
- The sphere surrounded by a ring represents the world and the alliance of nations among the Earth.
